Where you vote determines the services available.
Currently, Casco Township has two Senior millages:
The first millage is for .50. It goes directly to Allegan County to cover seniors with needs such as Transportation services, Home-delivered meals, In-Home care, Personal emergency response devices, and outreach and assistance. This is a countywide millage that goes to Allegan County Senior Services to help seniors with home-based needs throughout all of Allegan County.
The second millage is .25, which goes to your township for local activities such as Cards, cardio drumming, and other exercise programs.
The proposed millage on May 7, is for an additional .25 mil, which, along with the current .25 mil that goes to your township, will make .50 mil. This .50 mil will go to Senior Services of Van Buren County (SSVBC). SSVBC will continue all existing programs that are already provided at the Casco Township Hall. The additional millage will allow everyone in Casco Township, 60 and older, to experience any of SSVBC’s nine activity centers, including the new one in South Haven, with NO MEMBERSHIP FEES. So you would be able to enjoy daily meals or salad bar, pickleball, trips, extensive exercise programs, card games, computer/cell phone instruction, special programs, and health/vaccination clinics, Tai Chi, Yoga, Cornhole, Artist groups and more.
What does .25 mil mean to you in dollars and cents? For a $200,000 home with a taxable
value of $100,000, you will pay an additional $20-$25 per household per
year. If it passes, EVERYONE in Casco Twp 60 and over will automatically be eligible for free membership to Senior Services of Van Buren County and your local Casco Senior programs.
Senior Services of Van Buren County encourages you to attend our South Haven Senior Center anytime between now and May 7 at no cost to see what we are all about.
